Custom Favor Bags (with Heat Press Vinyl)

Muslin favor bags are so popular right now and with Thanksgiving just around the corner, I thought it would be fun to try and customize some of the bags for the holiday.  This is one of the easiest projects you can do!  You just need heat press vinyl and some small favor bags. Use your digital cutter to cut your design, weed the excess vinyl, iron it onto your bag and you're done.
Come back later for the free digital file to make your own.

Paint & Glitter Stenciled Sign

Here is an easy way to add some sparkle to a stenciled sign. Check out this tutorial to see how I use registration marks for multi-color designs and this tutorial for stenciling multi-color designs.
Here's what you need:
Board
Paint
Glue
Extra Fine Glitter
Vinyl Stencil

Here's what you do:
Drill holes if you'll be hanging your sign.  Then, paint your board and distress if desired.
Apply the first layer of the vinyl stencil.
Paint and let dry, then remove the vinyl.  Be sure to leave the registration marks.
Apply the next stencil layer, making sure to align the registration marks.
Paint over the design with glue (I used Elmer's).  Then sprinkle with glitter.  I pushed the glitter down with my finger to be sure it got in all the tiny spaces. I found it was best to work in small sections so the glue didn't dry before I added the glitter.
After the glue is dry, remove the excess glitter.  Then, carefully pull off the vinyl.
Use a small paint brush to brush away all the extra glitter. This part can be very time consuming.
But, I think the results are worth it.
So pretty and sparkly!

Be Thankful Sharpie Mug

I've saw a recipe last week for pumpkin spice mug cake.  It looked so yummy! It seems everything is so much cuter when it's made in a mug (or mason jar).  I already had a plain, white mug from the dollar store.  I just needed to create a design that would dress it up a bit.
I'm sure you've seen the DIY Sharpie mugs by now.  They look so easy to make, so I figured I would try it. I decided to test it out on an old mug and even after baking it for 30 minutes at 350 degrees, my markers still washed off.  So, I started researching and came across this post.  If you are going to make a Sharpie mug, you need to read it.  It has some great tips that will make your project successful.
These mugs really are easy to make.  You can free hand a design or cut one out of vinyl.  For the border, I copied and pasted the leaves until they measured just a little smaller than the circumference of the mug.
Follow these directions to have a design that actually lasts!
If you are worried about the marker coming in contact with food or your mouth, you can find info on the Sharpie website (question 20).
Isn't this a great reminder, especially this time of the year?

Faux Stitched Give Thanks Pillow

Since Halloween is over and Thanksgiving will be here in just a few weeks, there's not much time for Thanksgiving crafts.  So, I figured it was time to get started.  I wanted to create the look of a stitched applique pillow with paint and I think it turned out pretty good.
 Here's what you need:
Fabric
Paint
Mod-Podge (optional)
Vinyl Stencil

Here's what you do.
First, you need to lay out your vinyl to make stencils.  You can use this tutorial to see how I use arrows and registration marks for multi-color designs.  The registration marks are really important for this project. Here is a screen shot of my design. Before you cut, you might want to do a test cut to make sure the stitch marks are big enough to cut cleanly with your machine (I sized my whole design to be 10" tall).
Since this is a stencil, you need to peel out the part you want to paint.  So, for the first step, remove just the pumpkin.  The registration marks should be cut but don't remove them.  Use application tape to pick up the vinyl and apply it to your fabric.
If you fabric is textured or you are just worried about the paint leaking under the vinyl, apply a layer of Mod-Podge wherever you will be painting.  After it dries, then you can paint the pumpkin orange.
When the orange paint has dried, you can remove the vinyl, but make sure you leave the registration marks.
On most designs, on the next layer, you will want to weed out the negative space, including the registration marks and then apply transfer tape. But, because of the design of this project, you should be able to pull the vinyl off the backing.  You shouldn't need to weed or use transfer tape.  All the stitch marks and the registration marks should stay on the backing.
Then, carefully align the empty spot where the registration mark was removed with the one that was left on the fabric.  Apply another coat of Mod-Podge wherever you will be painting.
After that dries, you can paint the next color.
When the paint has dried, you can remove the vinyl, but make sure you leave the registration marks.
Repeat the steps again with the third layer, making sure to align the registration marks.
Apply Mod-Podge, paint and remove the vinyl. Now, you can remove the registration marks.
Then, you can turn your cute design into a pillow.  I followed this tutorial.

As I said above, the stitch marks and registration marks should stay on the backing and you will be left with something that looks like this.  You can apply application tape to this design and create a different project!

So, what do you think?
Would you have guessed this was painted?
