Board and Batten Stairs

I'm so excited to show this project, because it is one of my favorites! When we first bought our house, the stairs were covered with the original green & yellow vinyl and trimmed with metal edges.  They were ugly. It took until we completely finished the basement to finally carpet them and add a new railing.  On my quest to finish the house, I wanted to do something more.  I decided to do batten board on the connecting hallway, but wasn't sure what to do to tie the two spaces together.  This is what I came up with and I LOVE it! There are so many great tutorials for batten board, but I found I used this one most.

Before, with the awesome original green step and metal edge!  Sadly, you can't see the beautiful green & yellow vinyl.
After we had the carpet and railing installed.  What an improvement!
Finished!
A view from down the hallway.

Girls Room Redo with Vinyl!

When it came time to move the two girls into the same room, I decided it was a good time to redo and finish it. My inspiration came from this super cute bedding from Target.  I love the colors and cute flowers, but what I love the most is that it came in both twin and toddler size.
We painted the walls to match the bedding.  I cut out some vinyl flowers, polka-dots and butterflies in coordinating colors.

The monograms above their beds are also out of vinyl.

I couldn't find matching window valances, so I made them out of an extra bed skirt. They both love it...and best of all...it's finished!
A before shot...plain and pink (and never finished). And after...so bright and colorful. It just makes me happy looking at it!

Spring Cookie Bouquets

I made these bouquets as gifts last month. They are my favorite sugar cookies, but everyone I gave them said they looked to good to eat. I had never made a cookie bouquet before, so I kind-of just made up my own directions, but today I found this tutorial from A Pumpkin and a Princess. I pretty much did what she did, except I used a stiff decorators frosting instead of royal icing. I cut the picket fence with my die-cutter, but it's simple enough, you could do it by hand.

I've Created a Monster...

Literally! I created this cute little monster shirt a while back for one of my friends. I drew up the design on paper, cut out the different shapes in various fabrics and sewed them on my machine. I love appliques; they're such a fun and easy way to spice up an otherwise plain (because plain = boring) shirt.

Baby Shower Cupcakes

I made these cupcakes for my sil's baby shower. I saw them online and couldn't pass up the opportunity to try them. I found instructions at wilton.com and got lots of great ideas from cakecentral.com. This was my second attempt at using fondant and I think I'm getting the hang of it. It took pretty much the whole day to make them, but I think it was worth it. They turned out pretty cute and were quite fun to make.

Look at those cute little toes!
