Decorative Cutlery Wall Art

This week, I took a break from organizing the kitchen and spent some time making these cute wall hangings.  They were easy to make and can be done in any color to match your decor!
My pieces of wood are about 12" x 3.5".  I used a router to add a decorative edge and painted the base coat white.
Then, I added my vinyl decal.
Next, I painted the top coat over the vinyl decal.
After the paint dried, I carefully pulled up the vinyl.
Then, I lightly sanded the edges.
I used some staining medium mixed with brown and painted over the top.  I wiped off the excess with a paper towel.
I also made a matching fork and knife.
Now, I have some fun original artwork for my kitchen!
Come back later to get the free digital file to make your own.

Kitchen Drawer Organizers

I've spent the last couple weeks working on projects to organize my kitchen.  This week I focused on some drawers that needed some help. I found this tutorial that shows how to make DIY drawer organizers.  It was just what my drawers needed.

One additional step I added was labeling the drawer with vinyl decals.  This way, everyone can tell what goes where, even if the compartment is empty!
This project was really easy, just a few straight cuts and some glue. The hardest part was deciding where I wanted everything to go.
I'm sharing the free digital cutter file for the utensils this week for Freebie Friday.

Spice Jar Makeover

After making these canister labels for my mom last week, I figured it was time to do some labeling in my own kitchen.  The first project I decided to tackle was my spice rack.
My husband gave this to me almost 6 years ago.  It's still functional and looks good, there are just two problems with it. First, the printing has started to rub off some of the jars.  Actually, it's completely gone off a couple of them. Second, I only use a little more than half of the spices it came with.  The other spices I use are up in a cabinet. So, I figured if I made my own labels, I could fill the jars with the spices I use most.
I started by emptying all the jars.  I saved the spices I use and got rid of the rest.  Then, I had to figure out how to get the rest of the letters off.  I tried a few things, but found that nail polish remover took off the printing the best.  I removed all the lettering and then washed all the jars and lids and let them dry.
Next, I cut my labels out of vinyl.  Since I wanted them all to be applied at the same height, I added these brackets above each label before cutting.  I spaced the brackets .25" above the top of the circle.  When applying the vinyl, I aligned the bracket with the first ridge on the jar and repeated this with every label. This way, all the labels were the same height without having to measure each one.
Then, I just filled up the jars with my most used spices.
Now, It's more functional and I was able to free up some precious cabinet space!
I'm sharing the free digital cutter file for these spice jar labels this week for Freebie Friday.

Kitchen Canister Labels

I've spent the week with some of my family up at my parents cabin. One of the things my mom asked me to do was to make some labels for her kitchen.  I decided the canisters would be a great place to start.
I wanted something that was a little bit cutesy.  So, I made this border and added the words.  The font I used is called Grand Hotel.
I cut the labels out of vinyl and applied them to the canisters.
Come back later for the free digital file to create your own!
