After making these canister labels for my mom last week, I figured it was time to do some labeling in my own kitchen. The first project I decided to tackle was my spice rack.
My husband gave this to me almost 6 years ago. It's still functional and looks good, there are just two problems with it. First, the printing has started to rub off some of the jars. Actually, it's completely gone off a couple of them. Second, I only use a little more than half of the spices it came with. The other spices I use are up in a cabinet. So, I figured if I made my own labels, I could fill the jars with the spices I use most.
I started by emptying all the jars. I saved the spices I use and got rid of the rest. Then, I had to figure out how to get the rest of the letters off. I tried a few things, but found that nail polish remover took off the printing the best. I removed all the lettering and then washed all the jars and lids and let them dry.
Next, I cut my labels out of vinyl. Since I wanted them all to be applied at the same height, I added these brackets above each label before cutting. I spaced the brackets .25" above the top of the circle. When applying the vinyl, I aligned the bracket with the first ridge on the jar and repeated this with every label. This way, all the labels were the same height without having to measure each one.
Then, I just filled up the jars with my most used spices.
Now, It's more functional and I was able to free up some precious cabinet space!
I'm sharing the free digital cutter file for these spice jar labels this week for Freebie Friday.
