Freebie Friday - Patriotic Blocks

I've been learning how to make my digital cutter files available in different file formats, so I can share them with you! Each Friday, I will post a link for a free file for your digital cutter! The file will usually be from something I have created earlier in the week, so you can see what it looks like cut and have an example of a project you can make. Easy Patriotic Blocks

The 4th of July is going to be here before we know it, so I thought I'd better switch out of summer decorating and focus a bit on some patriotic decor. This project is super easy and if you have a little bit of scrap wood, can be made for next to nothing.

Start by cutting a 2 x 4 into 4 pieces. You'll need a 2", 3", 4" and 5".

Paint the 4" and 5" white, the 3" red, and the 2" blue.

Apply the first layer of vinyl

and then add the second layer of vinyl

Wrap with a patriotic colored bow and you've got a super cute, super easy 4th of July decoration.

Don't you love our patriotic colors? They are so crisp and clean and look so good together.

Flip Flop Welcome Sign

Even though my kids still have two weeks left of school, summer is pretty much here. So, I thought a summer door sign was a perfect project for the week.

I was originally going to cut some sandals out of wood, but then I came up with a solution that was so much easier!

I used some old flip flops that no longer fit one of my boys (you can also buy new sandals for really cheap).

I cut out the straps and spray painted them orange

and applied my different colors of vinyl

I drilled some holes in both the sandals and a white board. Then, I used raffia to attach the sandals.  I also glued them together at the bottom.

Finally, I added the "welcome", small flowers, and raffia to hang the board.

So fun and colorful and easy! Plus, I already had everything on hand so this project was free!

Vertical Laundry Sorter

I have wanted a laundry sorter for quite a while. Unfortunately, the only floor space I have is 21" next to my stacking washer/dryer and all the sorters I found were much bigger than that. Then one day, I thought about using a vertical stacking laundry sorter. I looked online and only found a few stacking laundry sorters and none of them fit my dimensions. So, if I really wanted one, my only option was to make my own.

So, I did. It took way longer than I thought and there were several times along the way I wanted to trash it. But, now that it's done, I'm really happy with it.

 

The cute fabric is from a sheet set and the frame is made with PVC pipe. I even added a little extra height at the top to hold empty hangers.

 I used heat transfer vinyl to make the labels..

Here is the space before. I needed something that was open in the back in case we ever need to access our power. There isn't even a hook-up for a sink, so that cabinet just sat there and usually collected junk. It was pretty much wasted space.

The laundry sorter is a perfect fit and so much more useful!

After I set it up, I taught my kids where the different colors go. Now, they just need to remember to put them there instead of on their bedroom floor!
