Easy Painted Starfish Place Mat

Here is a quick and easy way to dress up some place mats.  With just a little paint and some stencils, you can make this cute starfish place mat, perfect for a summer beach party!

Start with a plain place mat (mine was made of bamboo).

 Tape off and paint the stripes.

 After the stripes are dry, remove the tape and add the vinyl stencil.  Then, paint the starfish.

When the paint is dry, remove the vinyl and you have a fun, beachy place mat.

Painted Beach Door Mat

I've wanted to try painting a door mat for quite a while, but I didn't have one on hand and didn't want to spend a lot of money to buy one. Well, a couple of weeks ago, I was at the dollar store and was so excited to find a stack of door mats. What a great deal!

This is what it started out like.

A spray on primer would have been a good to use, but I didn't have any, so I just did lots of coats of spray paint to cover up the blue.  Once it was dry, it was time to put on my vinyl stencil.  It definitely took some time and patience to get the vinyl to stick.  Then, I walked over it several times to make sure it was on there good.

I painted a couple coats of blue and let it dry.

When I pulled up the vinyl, I was actually a little surprised how clean the lines were.  I expected a little leakage, but there really wasn't any.

I think it turned out great! I will definitely be trying this with other seasonal designs.  Hopefully, the dollar store has more of them.

Cooler Makeover

Every year, we go on a big camping trip with our extended family. This year, my daughter and her cousin wanted to have a cooler for just the two of them. Instead of buying a new one, we decided to give one of our old coolers a makeover.

This is what I started with.

All it took was some spray paint and a little vinyl to transform it this cute cooler!

Stenciled Patriotic Pillow

I hope you all had a happy 4th of July! Even though the holiday already come and gone, I still have a couple last minute projects to share.  This pillow is one of my favorites!

After making my St. Patrick's Day, I knew I wanted to make another one and thought a patriotic stamp would be fun to try.

I followed the same steps in this project, except I used two colors of paint instead of one.

I love the dark colors and the distressed look.
