Freebie Friday - Decorative Swirl

I've been learning how to make my digital cutter files available in different file formats, so I can share them with you! Each Friday, I will post a link for a free file for your digital cutter! Painted Tote Bag

As I was cleaning a couple weeks ago, I found an old canvas tote bag my daughter was no longer using.  I had a little project in mind, so I talked her into giving it to me.  This is how it turned out.

I started by mixing my paint with different amounts of white until I had four colors that looked good.  Then, I taped off and painted the first two stripes.

After those had dried, I taped off the other two stripes and painted them.

 I knew I wanted to add something decorative, so I made this fun swirl pattern and cut it out of heat press vinyl (love that stuff)!

So much cuter than the plain white bag.

Beach Sign

Last week, our family went on a little camping trip by a lake. Some of my kids absolutely love the water. So, I made this sign thinking of them.

I used the same type of wood as this project. I cut 8 - 8" pieces and 2 - 12"

and painted everything white and then used tape to hold the 8" strips together.

I applied my vinyl decal

and used a craft knife to cut the vinyl between each slat.

I painted each slat a different color.

After the paint dried, I removed all the vinyl

I sanded each piece to expose some of the white underneath and glued on the longer pieces. To finish it off, I drilled two holes and added some jute.

Is life better at the beach? I'm pretty sure my kids think so!

Last Minute Parade Shirts

On Monday, one of my kids asked me if I was going to make "parade" shirts this year, meaning a patriotic shirt. It wasn't really in my plans, but I figured it wouldn't take too long to make one shirt. But then I realized, I couldn't just make a shirt for one child, that wouldn't be fair. Instead, I got to make 6 parade shirts! I couldn't find 6 shirts in the same color, so I got 2 red, 2 blue, and 2 gray shirts. Then, I came up with a design that would work with all the colors and was gender neutral.

This is a three color design using red, white, and blue heat transfer vinyl.  I started by placing the three layers on the shirt to get an idea of where the design should go.

I took off the red and blue and centered the white and pressed it into place.

Next, I added the red over the top of the white.

I finished it off with the blue.

Then, I repeated those steps 5 more times and ended up with some pretty cool "parade" shirts.

I even got to teach a quick history lesson when some of my kids asked why it said 1776.
