Check Your Pockets Mason Jar Sign

Here is a great laundry room project to collect the change, crayons, batteries, and other things that are pulled out of pockets before they are washed. I don't have any shelf space in my laundry area, so I decided to make something that could hang on the wall.

  I started with a piece of scrap wood, it's pretty small, only 3.5" x 7.5". This wood was from a pallet so it was pretty rough. I sanded it down, especially around the edges.

Then, I painted it with one coat of paint.  Once it was dry, I sanded it again, making sure I actually removed the paint around the edges and some on the front.

I watered down some gray paint, brushed it on and wiped it off with a paper towel.

Then, I applied my vinyl lettering

and attached a metal pipe clamp and a small mason jar.

If you have a shelf, you could do this project without the wood and clamp. Just apply the vinyl directly to the mason jar.

Update: I've had lots of people ask how I attach the clamp to the wood.  I know there are a couple different ways to do it, but I found this to be the easiest

To attach the clamp to the wood, I just use two screws and attach one above the clamp and one below the clamp so it can't move.

Laundry Room Clock Redo

I am still working on organizing the laundry area, but a couple of the projects are time consuming and I often get distracted with life! While cleaning, I found a boring clock stuck in a pile and decided it would be great for another project.

This is the clock I started with. I got it from Ikea last year for about 2 bucks. I'm sure I was planning on doing something with it, but obviously I never got around to it.

I disassembled the clock and used the face as a template and cut out a new circle with some cute scrapbook paper.

I used the old face to mark off where the number should be and then started gluing on some mini clothespins.

Then, I added a cute quote I cut out of vinyl.

I also spray painted the clock frame to brighten it up. Once it was dry, I put everything back together.

Isn't it so much cuter than what I started with? And, I had everything on hand, even better! Hopefully, it will help me enjoy laundry time more. OK, well I doubt that. At least, I might enjoy my laundry space more.

Easy DIY Distressed Laundry Sign

I have decided to focus my organizing efforts on the laundry. But, instead of actually doing any organizing, I spent my day creating a stencil to make this cute laundry sign!

I found these pieces of wood from Home Depot. They come as strips that are about 1.5" x 4' and are around .50. They are a little rough, lightweight and perfect for a distressed sign. I cut 5 strips to about 16" and 2 strips almost 8".

I wanted a small gap between the strips, so I used pennies to space them evenly

and glued the smaller strips on top.

Then, I painted, stenciled, and sanded the same way I did in this project. I attached a wire hanger to the back and tied a piece of twine to cover the nail.
